PARISH FINANCE COUNCIL

                                             Building & Grounds Committee

Ministry Purpose / Objective:

To coordinate and plan activities surrounding the maintenance of the properties and grounds of the parish. This ministry monitors the condition of the physical environment and advises the Finance and Pastoral Councils of current facility and grounds status. It functions as a resource for general repairs and saves the parish money by performing repairs and projects instead of hiring others to do them whenever possible. It helps the Finance Council to coordinate and plan capital expenditures.

    Buildings & Grounds Committee Chairperson Position Description

 Reports to:         Pastor and Finance Chairperson

Refer to General Responsibilities of Every Ministry and Committee Chairperson and Coordinator:

Specific Responsibilities of Buildings and Grounds Chairperson:

  • Monitors the physical condition of St. Bart’s grounds and buildings.
  • Advises the Pastor and Finance Council of current facility status, and ways to save funds and resources.
  • Determines course of action for committee members, and projects.
  • Plans/schedules repairs and projects within parish budget guidelines.
  • Develops capital plan, and submits to Parish Finance Council for incorporation into annual budget.
  • Recruit new members
  • Oversees projects done by either committee members or outsourced labor.
  • Helps to update and maintain vendor contract list for outsourced projects
  • Hurricane preparation according to parish Hurricane Plan.


Meetings (when held, frequency, etc.):

  • Attends Finance Meetings
  • Expected Length of Commitment:
  •  Two years minimum, and may be extended.

Specific Qualifications Required:

  • Any experience in mechanical, carpentry, masonry, handyman tasks, construction, etc.


Buildings & Grounds Committee Member Position Description

Reports to:         Building & Grounds Committee Chairperson

Refer to General Responsibilities of Every Ministry and Committee Member:

Specific Responsibilities of Building & Grounds Committee Members:

  • Help in planning and/or executing general repairs on parish facilities and grounds.


Time Commitment:
Dependent on skills and projects.

Expected Length of Commitment:

  • At least one year.

  • One or more of the following “handyman” skills:
  • Mechanical skills
  • Electrical skills
  • Painting skills
  • Plumbing skills
  • Carpentry skills
  • General handyman skills


Landscaping Team

  • Help maintain the gardens around the parish property
  • Help with Spring planting –

Decide what flowers and plant to plant each year 

Submit budget to Finance Council

Purchase & plant purchased materials

Help water the gardens during Summer
