Liturgy Commission
Ushers/Hospitality Ministry
Ministry Purpose/Objective
To serve the parish by offering hospitality to all those attending liturgies and special events, provides assistance in seating and facilitates the first and second collections during all liturgies.
Usher/Hospitality Member Position Description
Reports to: Usher/Hospitality Chair/Coordinator
General Responsibilities of Every Ministry and Committee Member:
Specific Responsibilities of Usher/Hospitality Members
- Understand the responsibilities for Ushers, explained at initial training.
- Implement the following tasks:
- Seat parishioners, especially latecomers.
- Assist with collections.
- Assist in the distribution and/or collection of materials, e.g., surveys.
- Be aware of disabled parishioners’ needs.
- Take Mass attendance count and record it in the folder
Special Activities
- Attend annual parish Ministry Recollection Day
- Annual Parish Ministry Appreciation Dinner
- Help with Annual Stewardship Fair
Meetings
Rehearsal for special liturgies
Time Commitment
- Assigned liturgy and about 30 additional minutes (15 before and 15 after assigned liturgy)
Expected Length of Commitment
General Qualifications Required of Every Ministry and Committee Member:
Specific Qualifications Required
- Practices the Catholic faith through regular attendance at liturgy and reception of the Sacraments.
- Friendly and outgoing.
- Reliable and prompt.
- Knowledgeable about the what goes on in the parish in order to inform potential new
- parish members and visitors.
Usher/Hospitality Coordinator/Chairperson Position Description
Reports to: Commission Chairperson
General Responsibilities of Every Ministry and Committee Chairperson and Coordinator:
Specific Responsibilities of Lector Coordinator
- Ensures ushers are aware of and follow the instructions
- Informs Ushers of any changes as requested by the Liturgical Commission or Pastor.
- Supervise implementation of Usher Ministry Guidelines
- Serves as usher
- Ensures collection baskets are available
- Collaborates with pastor for specific instructions regarding the program.
- Recruits and trains a suitable candidate for Assistant Coordinator.
- Recruits Usher volunteers for Holy Days and special liturgies and events, informing them of any need other than their regular duties
- Regularly check First Aid Kit in the Church and ensures that the defibrillator is in working order (light blinks).

- Host an orientation for new ministers

Expected Length of Commitment
General Qualifications Required of Every Ministry and Committee Chairperson and Coordinator:
Specific Qualifications Required
- Practices the Catholic faith through regular attendance at liturgy and reception of the Sacraments.
- A Registered parishioner.
- A person who is friendly, works well with people, and is organized.
- Must serve as an active usher.
